This Is Our Story

Bainsville Bay Campground, purchased by Murdoch Ross in 1852, has transformed significantly over the years into the beautiful waterfront campground it is today.
The property has been in the Ross family for over 170 years, evolving through various business ventures. Initially a wheelwright operation in 1852, then a marina and boathouse in 1955. In 1955, a 24-foot square marina was constructed near the creek on the property, along with the purchase of several flat-bottom rowboats. This development aimed to attract fishermen from far and wide to the abundant waters of Bainsville Bay. John Murdoch Ross and Rhoda Westlake, the current owner's grandparents, envisioned a campground along the scenic St. Lawrence River after the marina's success. In 1968, they opened the riverfront area to campers, creating a haven for 20-30 campers who enjoyed its tranquility and breathtaking views over the next 50 years.
After the passing of John Murdoch Ross, his sons Thomas (Tommy) and Lyle Ross took on the responsibility of caring for the property. Tommy diligently managed the thriving Ross' Boat and Motor Rental - Live Bait and Tackle business while also maintaining and upgrading the small campground his parents had established. His passion for the property and the campground was passed down to his three sons, John, Campbell, and Finlay Ross. They spent their childhood summers on the water, enjoying the family campground and absorbing their father's love for the land and the business. This legacy of dedication and care has continued through the generations, preserving the charm and appeal of Bainsville Bay Campground.
In 2021, John, Campbell, and Finlay Ross—purchased the 55 acres property, continuing their grandfather's and fathers legacy. Bainsville Bay Campground officially reopened in June 2024, now offering 90 lots along the picturesque St. Lawrence River.
